What is free and what is Pro
The whole video can be built and watched without paying. Pro is for the two things that cost something to run: listening to the song to write out the words, and downloading the finished file.
| Step | What you do | Plan |
|---|
| Song | Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or AAC | Free |
| Look | 12 picks for text or the full library, in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 | Free |
| Lyrics | Paste them and tap along, or have them written out from the song | Free, or Pro for Auto |
| Timing | Drag, nudge and retype lines; download .lrc or .srt | Free |
| Style | 7 animations, 15 fonts, any colour, nine places | Free |
| Export | MP4 up to 4K, no watermark | Pro |
Make one in six steps
- 1.Add the song. Open the lyric video page and drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or AAC file. Nothing to install.
- 2.Pick a look. Start from 12 visuals chosen to sit well behind text, or browse all 3,500+. Choose the shape too: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5.
- 3.Add the lyrics. Paste or type the words, then tap once as each line starts while the song plays. On Pro, Auto writes them out and times every word for you.
- 4.Check the timing. Play it through. Each line lights as it is sung; drag any line that is early or late on the timeline under the song.
- 5.Style the words. Pick one of 7 animations and 15 fonts, any colour, an outline, glow, shadow or box, and one of nine places on screen.
- 6.Export. Render the video in your browser and download it, up to 4K on Pro.
Your lyrics, timed two ways
The free way is tap-along. Paste the words, press play, and tap once each time a line starts. Taps land a touch early to make up for reaction time, and any line can be dragged afterwards. Nothing leaves your browser.
The automatic way is on Pro. Auto listens to the song and writes the words out with a time for every word, or times words you have already pasted. Pro includes 300 minutes of song a month for it, 30 during the free trial, and a song it has already heard can be timed again at no cost. The song is sent to a speech service for this step only.
Either way, read the words through before you export. People mishear lyrics, and so do speech models.
7 ways for the words to arrive
- Karaoke. Each word lights up as it is sung.
- Scroll. Lines roll up, the sung one lit.
- Pop. Words pop in one at a time.
- Typewriter. Each word types out as it is sung.
- Line. Whole lines fade in and out.
- Bold. A few huge words at a time.
- Minimal. Small text in the lower third.
Each comes in 15 fonts, from Bebas Neue to Playfair to a hand-written Caveat, in any colour, with an outline, a glow, a shadow or a caption box, at the top, middle or bottom of the frame.
Why the picture behind the words matters
A lyric video plays for the whole song, so the background carries three minutes on its own. Most lyric tools put the words over your own footage, stock clips or a template. Groovalizer puts them over a generative scene that reacts to the bass, mids and treble of the track, so the picture changes with the song instead of looping. Here is what the others say on their own pages, read 2 October 2026.
| Tool | Timing | Behind the words | Free plan |
|---|
| Kapwing | Typed by hand, or automatic subtitles | Your own media, or stock from GIPHY and Pexels | Free to start |
| VEED | Automatic subtitles, or pasted lyrics | Your video or images, templates, a visualizer | Watermark on free exports |
| LyricMV | Automatic, word by word | Three templates, one with a reactive bar ring | 480p preview |
| EchoWave | Automatic, line by line | Your images or video, or a reactive waveform | Watermark on free exports |
| WaveCanvas | Automatic | Three caption styles over reactive backgrounds | Watermark on free exports |
| Groovalizer | Tap-along, or automatic on Pro | 3,500+ generative scenes that react to the song | Build and preview free; export on Pro |
If you want your own clips or stock footage behind the lyrics, Kapwing and VEED are built for that. Groovalizer is for when the music should move the picture.
Keep the timed lyrics as a file
Once the lines are timed, download them as an .lrc file, the synced-lyrics format music players read, or an .srt file of subtitles for a video editor. Both are free and need no account. The LRC generator page walks through that on its own.
Free to build, Pro to download
Everything up to the export is free, with no account needed for tap-along timing. Pro is $14.99 a month or $144 a year: unlimited full-length videos up to 4K with no watermark, plus 300 minutes a month of automatic lyrics. The first 7 days are free.
The same session also makes the vertical cut for TikTok and Reels: switch the shape to 9:16 and export again.
