vizz.fm loads in a tab, takes your audio, and reacts. Dozens of styles, from flowing particles to glowing waveforms to shader scenes, with post-processing you can turn on and off. No download, no sign-up, no charge. As a thing to watch while music plays, it does the job well.
The gap is what happens when you want to keep it.
A live visualizer draws whatever it can in the 16 milliseconds before the next frame. If your laptop stalls, the frame drops and nobody notices. A video renderer cannot drop anything: every frame has to exist, in order, at a fixed rate, with the audio lined up to the sample. Adding an export to a live tool means building that second machine.
Groovalizer has both. Live mode is the player: microphone or file in, fullscreen out, presets cycling on a timer. Export is the renderer: it steps through your track offline, draws each frame at your chosen size, and encodes MP4 through the browser’s own video encoder, or WebM in Firefox. A screen recording never has to happen.
vizz.fm says its export is in development. When it ships, this page will say so.

Groovalizer runs projectM, the open-source successor to Winamp’s MilkDrop, compiled to WebAssembly. Its 3,500+ presets are text files in the .milk format, a language a community has written visual art in for two decades. You can open any of them in the built-in editor, change an equation while it runs, and save the result as yours.
vizz.fm’s styles are its own, tuned by hand and adjusted with sliders. That is a fine way to build a player. It is a closed set.
Open vizz.fm when you want something pretty on the second monitor and nothing more. Open Groovalizer when you want the same thing plus a file at the end: a vertical clip for a Reel, a widescreen video for YouTube, or a full-song visual for a release.
Watching is free on both, with no account. The Groovalizer file comes from Pro, and its first 7 days are free.
